Western Psychological Services   No   The Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ; Rutter, Bailey, & Lord, 2003) uses 40 yes/no questions to obtain a brief parent or caretaker report on the communication skills and social functioning in children who may have autism or autism spectrum disorders. Subjects may be anyone over age 4.0 with a mental age 2.0 years or higher. There are two forms of the SCQ. The Lifetime Form focuses on the child’s entire developmental history. Results identify individuals who may have autism and should be referred for a more complete evaluation‹with the Autism Diagnostic Interview, Revised (ADI-R) or the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). The SCQ content parallels that of the ADI-R. Relevant research is reviewed in the test manual. The Current Behavior Form looks at the child’s behavior over the most recent 3-month period. Results are useful in treatment planning, educational intervention, and measurement of change over time. The instrument was previously known as the Autism Screening Questionnaire (ASQ). Forms are available in Spanish as well as English. Contact Western Psychological Services to obtain information on all SCQ materials.
